Rev. Dr. Barbara Doerrer-Peacock was appointed as associate pastor of Velda Rose UMC in January 2011. She comes by way of her “home” denomination of the United Church of Christ, but she has also served as pastor in United Methodist Churches for many years. She leads the New Community Worship service, coordinates adult education and mission activities. Barb came most recently from serving , since 2000, as co-pastor with her husband Rich, at South Mountain Community Church, a church with dual standing in the UCC and UMC in South Phoenix, where Rich continues to serve. In 1994, Barb and Rich served Chino Valley Community Church in northern Arizona. Barb’s first call/appointment was to a yoked parish of two small churches (one UCC, and the other UMC) in rural Malone and Stockbridge, Wisconsin, in 1985. While in Chino Valley and at South Mountain, Barb also served as a part-time staff member of the Southwest Conference United Church of Christ, working in the areas of stewardship, church renewal, and most recently for five years as the director of summer camps. Barb received her B.A. from Ripon College, Wisconsin, in 1978, her M.Div. from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago in 1985, and her D.Min. from Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, in 2008. In addition to ministry, Barb loves to be creative in as many areas of life as possible. She’s a watercolor artist, writer, guitarist, song writer, poet, computer techie, and TV & video couch potato.
